Carleton Forehoe

Carleton Forehoe is a village and former civil parish 9 miles (14 km) west of Norwich,[1] now in the parish of Kimberley, in the South Norfolk district, in the county of Norfolk, England. In 1931 the parish had a population of 123.[2]

History

The name "Carleton" is Old English and Old Scandinavian[4] and means 'Free peasants' farm/settlement'.[5] The "Forehoe" part comes from the Forehoe Hills and means "four hills".[6] Carleton Forehoe was recorded in the Domesday Book as Carletuna/Karletuna.[7] On 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Kimberley.[8]
