Masculine Ghislain, Guislain, Ghyslain or Ghiselin and feminine Ghislaine or Ghyslaine is a French personal name used in countries with French-speaking populations. The name derives from Germanic words gisal ("hostage") and lind ("sweet").[1] The name possibly became popular as it was added to the names given to children at birth to afford them protection by Saint Ghislain of Hainaut.[2]
