A magnetic gradiometer survey of the site has been conducted.[2] The site was occupied from circa 1500 to 1800. In 1915 a professor at nearby Bethany College found Spanish chain mail at the site, which led to the naming of nearby Coronado Heights, a large hill few miles northeast of the site[3][4] The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
