Ariel Martínez (baseball)

Ariel Martínez Marrero (born May 28, 1996) is a Cuban professional baseball catcher for the Chunichi Dragons of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). He previously played for Cocodrilos de Matanzas in the Cuban National Series.

In this Spanish name, the first or paternal surname is Martínez and the second or maternal family name is Marrero.

Professional career

On March 14, 2018, Martínez signed with the Chunichi Dragons on a developmental contract.[1] He spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons with Chunichi's farm team. On July 1, 2020, Martinez was given a full-time rostered deal and a new shirt number, 57. [2] Martínez notched 5 hits in 18 plate appearances for Chunichi in 2020.[3]
