British Rail Class 756
The Class 756 FLIRT[2] will be a class of tri-mode multiple units which will be built for Transport for Wales Rail by Swiss rolling stock manufacturer Stadler Rail. Tri-mode in this instance is an electric motor which can be driven by overhead electric lines, on-board batteries or a diesel generator.[3]

A total of 24 units are to be built, with these being seven three-car and 17 four-car units.
History
The Wales & Borders rail franchise, operated by KeolisAmey Wales from 14 October 2018, included the clause that during the franchise period the operator will oversee a full fleet replacement.[4] With the franchise now operated by Transport for Wales Rail, a batch of 24 brand new tri-mode multiple units set to join the fleet in 2023.[5]
